Our Projects

Indigenous Farm to School

The Wind River Food Sovereignty Project is working with the Fort Washakie, Wyoming Indian, Arapahoe, and St. Stephens school districts to help School Nutrition Professionals increase Indigenous foods in school food and child nutrition programs.

Producer Grants and Support

One of our goals is to increase the number of local farmers, ranchers and specialty food producers in the Wind River Reservation; and to do so we need to support producers themselves.

If you are a producer (or would like to become a producer) on WRR, please contact Wind River Food Sovereignty Project’s Ag Business Coordinator, Craig Harry, for more information on trainings and grants.

Farmers Markets

The Wind River Food Sovereignty Project manages the long-standing Wind River Farmers Market. Markets take place from June -October at these locations:

Tuesdays: St. Stephens School Araphoe, 4:30pm-6:30pm

Thursdays: Frank B. Wise Building, Ft. Washakie, 4:30pm-6:30pm

It is $5 to set up a table, or $20 for the entire season! Youth vendor program is $1 per market. If you would like to learn more about the market or become a vendor, please contact Nesha Smith at ikchav03@gmail.com

Food Production

Our food production is expanding! The Trout Creek Farm will host multiple greenhouses, growing domes, a youth garden and a planted 1/2 acre field. As we build our food production program we hope to be a source for quality and sustainably grown produce in our community.
