Organization Overview

The Center for Popular Research, Education and Policy (C-PREP) DBA Wind River Food Sovereignty Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing Indigenous Food Sovereignty by supporting sustainable food systems, cultural revitalization,  traditional ecological knowledge, and community well-being. Our mission is to build a resilient local food system designed by and for the communities of the Wind River Reservation. Our programs expand community food production, support Native-owned food businesses, and promote educational opportunities.

Position Summary

The Farm Business Manager plays a central role in advancing the mission of the Wind River Food Sovereignty Project by overseeing the financial, administrative, and business operations of the organization’s agricultural enterprises. This role will co-manage Trout Creek Farm production activities with the Farm Production Manager to support regenerative agriculture food production, food sales, and food safety compliance. The Farm Business Manager ensures that farm operations are financially sustainable, efficiently managed, and aligned with Indigenous values, community food needs, and long-term food sovereignty goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Business & Financial Management

  • Develop and manage annual budgets for farm production and food distribution initiatives.

  • Track revenue and expenses; maintain accurate financial records in compliance with federal grant requirements.

  • Oversee invoicing, accounts payable/receivable, and procurement processes.

  • Create financial projections and cost-of-production models to support strategic decision-making.

  • Support the development of new revenue streams (CSA subscriptions, farmers’ markets, wholesale partnerships, value-added products, etc.).

Farm Operations Coordination

  • Work with the Farm Manager to: 

    • Align production plans with business goals.

    • Coordinate planting schedules, harvest planning, inventory tracking, and distribution logistics to optimize efficiency and minimize waste.

    • Maintain compliance with food safety standards (GAP, FSMA, HACCP) and assist with required documentation.

    • Support equipment procurement, maintenance planning, and supply management.

Grant & Program Administration

  • Assist with reporting for federal, state, and foundation grants supporting farm production and business activities.

  • Ensure timely submission of grant reports, financial tracking, and documentation of outcomes.

Market Development & Sales

  • Oversee marketing and sales strategy for farm-produced goods.

  • Build relationships with schools, Tribal programs, local retailers, and institutional buyers.

  • Set pricing structures based on cost analysis and market conditions.

Data Management & Evaluation

  • Maintain accurate production, yield, and sales records.

  • Track metrics for program evaluation and community impact reporting.

  • Use data to improve efficiency, sustainability, and community benefit.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, agriculture, agribusiness, economics, nonprofit management, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 1–3 years experience in farm management, agribusiness, nonprofit program administration, or financial management.

  • Strong financial literacy and proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Excel, or similar).

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Commitment to Indigenous food sovereignty, community health, and sustainable agriculture.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with Tribal communities; cultural humility and respect for traditional knowledge.

Preferred

  • Experience working with Native American Tribes or within Indigenous-led organizations.

  • Knowledge of regenerative agriculture, diversified vegetable production, livestock systems, or greenhouse management.

  • Experience with food safety compliance, CSA management, or Farm-to-School programs.

  • Grant writing and reporting experience.

  • Familiarity with USDA, EDA, and Tribal agricultural programs.

Work Conditions

  • Combination of office work and on-site work with farm staff.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally assist with farm tasks.

  • Seasonal schedule flexibility may be required.

Compensation:
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Benefits package included. Salary range: $47,840 - $52,000
